What are the defects?
Due to a software issue, the daytime running lamps switch off when the vehicle enters fuel-saving (sailing) mode.
What are the hazards?
Daytime running lamps not operating as intended may reduce the vehicle's visibility to other road users, increasing the risk of an accident and potentially resulting in serious injury or death. The condition also results in non-compliance with Australian Design Rule (ADR) 13/00—Installation of Lighting and Light-signalling Devices on other than L-Group Vehicles and ADR 76/00—Daytime Running Lamps.
What should consumers do?
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Kia Australia advising them to contact an authorised Kia dealership to have the software updated, free of charge.
