What are the defects?
Due to a software issue, if the driver does not have their hands on the steering wheel for an extended period, the brake jolt triggered by the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions meant to alert the driver may be misinterpreted as the driver braking. As a result, the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions are deactivated.
Note: The instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual and audible warnings that the safety functions are deactivated.

What should consumers do?
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Volkswagen and are asked to arrange with their nearest authorised Volkswagen dealer to have the software updated, free of charge.
