What are the defects?

Due to a manufacturing defect the wiring harness of the steering control unit may be damaged. The damage can allow water or moisture into the wiring harness, which can cause a short circuit resulting in a loss of electric power steering.

A failure of the electric power steering would be indicated by a corresponding warning message in the instrument panel.

What are the hazards?

If a short circuit occurs, it may result in a loss of electric power steering. This can increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.
