What are the defects?
Due to improper material and dimensions, the fatigue strength of the propeller shaft is lower than expected and the propeller shaft may crack and detach.
What are the hazards?
If the propeller shaft cracks and detaches, the driver will notice engine noise. If the vehicle continues to be driven, the vehicle may stop without warning. If this occurs in traffic, there is an increased risk of an accident, that could result in serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users.
What should consumers do?
Replacement parts will not be available until the beginning of March 2021.
When parts become available, Infiniti will contact affected vehicle owners in writing. Consumers will be advised to contact their Infiniti Dealer to arrange for the replacement of the propeller shaft. The replacement will be at no cost to owners.
For further information, consumers can contact the Infiniti Customer Service Centre on 1800 241 193 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 6pm) and select Infiniti Cars Australia (option 2).
